Known as the Festival of Lights, Chanukah commemorates the rededication of the Second Holy Temple in Jerusalem during the 2nd century BCE. Chanukah is traditionally observed for eight days and nights and is celebrated by lighting the menorah, enjoying foods fried in oil, playing dreidel games and giving gelt. Our festive Chanukah truffles are inspired by sufganiot (fried jelly doughnuts) and golden gelt coins traditionally linked with education and charity.

  1. Grodno Gelt = dark chocolate + orange + cardamom sugar

  2. The tradition of giving Chanukah Gelt (literally “Chanukah money”) is a long-standing one in the Grodno region of Belarus, close to the borders of Poland and Lithuania. This custom originates from the 17th century practice of Polish Jewry to give money to their children’s religious teachers as a token of their gratitude, emphasizing their value of Jewish education. The giving of money on Chanukah is also linked to the miraculous victory of the Macabees over the ancient Greeks, after which the Hasmoneans minted national coins in celebration. Our gilded truffles are reminiscent of these golden coins, and we elevate our truffles further with the elegant blend of orange and cardamom flavors.

  3. Jerusalem Sufganiot = dark chocolate + dried cherry + pure cane sugar

  4. Sufganiot are ball-shaped doughnuts that are deep fried, filled with the traditional red jelly and topped with powdered sugar. They are widely consumed in Israel in the weeks leading up to and including Chanukah, during which foods fried in oil are customarily eaten. Our truffle interpretation of this delicious doughnut features a dried, tart cherry suspended in cherry-chocolate ganache, dipped in tempered dark chocolate and rolled in pure cane sugar.
